3. Fish Brood Stock Manager/ Saudi Arabia/ National Prawn Company

Job Description:

NPC currently has opening for a Fish Broodstock Manager to assist the HEAD of Broodstock in operation of the Amberjack broodstock facility and the development of new species broodstock.

Within the context of the overall Fish Hatchery facility, The Fish Broodstock manager will be required to manage our multispecies broodstock facility in order to ensure the reliable delivery of high quality eggs to the fish hatchery in sufficient quantities and to meet the hatchery production objectives.

Broodstock facility #1. Located at Farm 8, the newly constructed Amberjack broodstock facility is re-circulation facility which contains 8 individual broodstock holding areas and will form the core of the company’s goal for year round spawning and egg production.

Broodstock facility #2. Located at Phase 2, the new production facility will consists of a quarantine unit and 20 tanks on flow through and recirculation system aimed to hold various broodstock species.

Under the direction of the Head of the department the role of the Broodstock Manager is to assist in the smooth operation of the Bio-secure Broodstock facilities and ensuring the reliable egg supply to the hatchery on an as needed basis.

Overall both Broodstock facilities will provide high quality and disease free eggs as per the company’s production plans.

All work will be done under a regime of continuous development aimed at minimizing labor requirement, improving production efficiency, overall cost effectiveness and production reliability.

Under the direction of the Department Head, and in conjunction with the manager of Hatchery the Broodstock Manager will be responsible for ensuring the problem free daily operations of the Fish Broodstock Department.

This role will be but not limited to the following:

• Organization of staff and allocation of work, on daily, weekly and Monthly basis
• Managing the water treatment and support systems to ensure problem free and bio-secured operations.
• Managing the daily recording of system and production data in a manner (soft and hard copies) that allows for accurate and reliable reporting and analysis.
• Management of the operations to ensure continual maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation of fish tanks, culture areas, equipment and material used for culture
• Strict implementation of area Bio-security procedures
• Controlling the feeding of the fish ensuring broodstock health and condition
• Managing operations within the framework of SOP for all activities.
• Management of materials to ensure all consumable stocks is monitored and replacements ordered in time.
• Management of the sourcing and introduction of new stocks
• Management of the quarantine system to eliminate disease introduction threat with new Broodstock.
• Management of the thermo-photoperiod regimes to ensure all year egg production

Monthly reports will be required documenting:

• Consumable Use
• Egg production and fish status
• Projections of  Egg production
• RAS and support system status
• Employee usage
• Production costs

The manager will be expected to provide the  following:

• Delivery of an annual budget in a timely and accurate manner
• Review and development of functional SOP’s
• Staff appraisals

It is expected that all work will be done in full compliance with the company’s overall policies and in a spirit of continual development.

Due to the nature of the position the Broodstock Manager will be required to work a flexible time schedule and take a “hands on” approach to getting the job done.

Requirements – Qualifications/Experience:

• Minimum B.Sc. in Marine Biology, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Ichthyology, Aquatic Chemistry, Biology, or other relevant studies.
• Training in area of Broodstock Management
• Training in Disease prevention and control
• Driving License
• Diving Qualification

Additional Criteria Include:

• 5 years prior experience at management level in marine fish Broodstock
• Experience with several species of Marine Fish
• Prior experience with the management of RAS systems
• Familiar with fish disease diagnostics
• Good knowledge of spoken and written English
• Computer literate (high skills in Microsoft applications is a must)
• Engineering understanding

Under the direction of the Broodstock Manager and with the assistance of one aquaculture assistant, the Senior technician  will be responsible for ensuring the problem free daily operation of the Broodstock facility. This role will be but not limited to the following:

• daily monitoring of the operational status of the RAS’s and rectification of  problems
• daily monitoring  of support equipment e.g. chillers, oxygen generators, cold stores.
• daily recording of system data
• continual maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation of fish tanks, culture areas, equipment and material used for culture
• implementation of area Bio-security procedures
• feeding of the fish and monitoring appetite and feeding behavior
• ensuring the reliable operational status of all RAS equipment
• ensuring compliance with bio-security procedures
• ensuring compliance with SOP for all activities
• ensuring the general facility is well maintained, hygienic and rubbish free.

In addition to daily routines the Senior Technician will take responsibility for ensuring:

• all records (soft and hard copies) are maintained accurately and are up to date.
• all consumable stocks are monitored and replacement are ordered in  time.
• Water quality monitoring is carried out according to agreed program as per SOP’s
• Any faults or problems are promptly reported and appropriate action taken.
• All alarms are answered (24hour call via SMS)

Monthly reports will be required documenting:

• Consumables Use
• Fish Status (feed consumption, maturation stage, biological and environmental parameters)
• RAS system status

Under the direction of the Broodstock manager the Senior Technician will be expected to assist in other areas of the Broodstock operations including:

• Routine operations in the other broodstock species, Phase 2 and Farm 8
• Routine fish handling operations for data collection (sex, weight, tagging, assessment of reproduction condition development of fish)
• Fish handling operations for inducement of egg production
• Collecting and transporting broodstock from the cage farm in Al-Khoreiba.
• Stocking of Broodstock in tanks

Contributions will be expected in the following:

• preparation of the annual budget in a timely and accurate manner
• review and development of functional SOP’s

Due to the nature of the position the Senior Technician will be required to work a flexible time schedule and take a “hand on” approach to getting the job done.

Requirements – Qualifications/Experience:

• Minimum B.Sc. in Marine Biology, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Ichthyology, Aquatic Chemistry, Biology, or other relevant studies.
• Driving License
• Minimum 5 years experience in Broodstock and hatchery

Additional Criteria Include:

• Master in Science degree is an advantage
• Technical experience in the area of discipline.
• Good knowledge of spoken and written English

Positions will report to supervision of parent companies in Hong Kong and Australia. The positions will coordinate administrative processes, supervise construction of facilities, and initiate biological activities, and generate monthly reporting program on project evolution, from March-2013. CEO, must be based in Hong Kong, and will be expected to visit operations once a month. Managers will be required to be based on operation Country on call 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
